Kassia Meador Shoot–Final Video

Several months back I had the pleasure of photographing professional longboarder Kassia Meador for Gravis Footwear. The images centered around her artwork, which is pretty unreal I might add, and were to be used in a promotional video they were putting together. Well, the video’s done and on the Gravis Footwear site, but you can check it out here, too. Kassia also has a great blog that details here travels, events, and exotic surf locations.

San Diego Style Weddings Shoot!

Last week, I had the opportunity to photograph some tabletops designed by San Diego’s finest coordinators and florists. The images will appear in an upcoming issue of San Diego Style Weddings. The shoot also involved photographing the lovely Sarah in a few gorgeous wedding gowns. I feel a cover shot!

Stalwart Communications

Dave Oates, Principal at Stalwart Communications, is changing the way people think about public relations. His “pay-on-performance” business model is ruffling plenty of feathers in the PR world, which for years has built itself on large, up-front retainer fees and very little in the way of measurable results. Stalwart has only been in business for about two-and-a-half years, but already has a laundry list of clients and continues to grow at a rapid pace, when many other large PR firms are closing their doors.

Dave has referred a lot of work my way, so when it came time for some new portraits of him and his new employee, Allison, I was pumped. We shot the images on the beach in Cardiff under the hot sun of the last Santa Ana we had. In an effort to limit their exposure to the sun in their suits, we kept the shoot to about 10 minutes.

United Through Reading

I have been a full-on laggard when it comes to blogging. I just noticed that it’s been well over a month since my last blog post. And it’s not like I haven’t had anything to blog about–I’ve just lagged. No excuses, I lagged. Did I mention that I lagged? But I digress…

United Through Reading is a great local non-profit with the mission of “uniting families facing physical separation by facilitating the bonding experience of reading aloud together.” I was asked to photograph the board of directors as well as the organization’s CEO, Sally Ann Zoll.

The Board of Directors was photographed in the lobby of a large office building in the UTC area. Lighting was fairly simple, with one main light in an octabox high and centered above the group, and two monolights in softboxes on each side and towards the back.

The CEO was photographed just outside the main entrance of the headquarters in Sorrento Valley. There’s a nice metallic facade that made a cool background.

Got a call from Indo supercharger Dustin Campbell a few days ago, requesting some images of their new building for a press release. After some images of the outside, it was time to hit the warehouse and get funky with some remote lighting.

Go Red Time!

February marks “Go Red” month for the American Heart Association in their campaign to raise awareness about heart disease in women. I spent a night last week driving around San Diego with AHA BizDev (should be “BizDIVA”) superwoman, Emily Harris. We photographed several buildings around the county, among them the newly revamped U.S. Grant Hotel.

WSJ Shoot — Sentek Consulting

Here’s an image Eric Basu, CEO of Sentek Consulting. This image is for the Wall Street Journal, which is doing a piece on his company, focusing on the company’s ability to grow with a relatively low in-office staff (many of the employees are remote).

SDSW Shoot

On Monday, I was asked to shoot some bridal fashion for San Diego Style Weddings magazine. Arrived at the Hyatt Aventine bright and early on Monday morning to do some location scouting. After hair and makeup, we started shooting. We shot three different dresses in about 90 minutes, which is really quick.

Kudos to hair stylist Shelisa Burke of A Beautiful Bride, to makeup artist Gale Alexander of Make-Up Artistry by Gale, and to Cher from Chez Bride Moderne for the beautiful wedding gowns. Also special thanks to our lovely model, Ashleigh Erwin, who made my job extremely easy.

American Heart Associaton’s 2007 Monopoly Gala

On Friday, I had the privelege to photograph the American Heart Association’s 2007 Monopoly Gala, held at the Hotel Del Coronado. The evening centered around a gigantic Monopoly tournament, with the top four finishers heading home with some pretty cool prizes. More importantly, however, the event raised a ton of money for the AHA.

I’ve photographed lots of different sports in my life, but had never photographed people playing Monopoly. Who knew board game players could get so animated?!
